Blessed Be His Name

Tega Cay Baptist Family and Friends,

 Memory verse for this week

“The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” Job 1:21

Does suffering cause us to think differently about God? It may, for some, cause doubt about His power or goodness. Job blessed the name of the Lord. His attitude was that no matter what happens, God is on His throne and He is still worthy to be praised. It is one thing to worship God when everything is going to our pleasure but quite another to worship in the midst of the darkest times of life. He is often times seen most clearly in the midst of tragedy. Without brokenness we will never know healing. Without the cross there is no crown. Have the confidence in the goodness of God to view each tragedy as His tool of sanctification to make you more like His Son.

 Prayer points for today:

  1. Give Him praise.
  2. Pray for someone in need today.

 In Christ Alone,

Brad

Taken Away

Tega Cay Baptist Family and Friends,

 Memory verse for this week

“The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” Job 1:21

The LORD is the giver of all good gifts. James tells us that “every good gift and every perfect gift” proceeds from the Father (Ja. 1:17). It is not difficult to convince people of this. But this is not the whole of the matter. The Lord also takes away. This is the side of God’s sovereignty that is more difficult to comprehend. Why would God take away that which is dear to us? Interestingly, Job does not attempt to answer that question at this point though his three friends tried to give a reason. It comes down to trust. Though we may never know why this or that was taken away, we can still confess trust in God’s management of our life.

Prayer points for today:

  1. Place your trust in God even when you do not understand.
  2. Pray for someone you know who is suffering loss.

The LORD

Tega Cay Baptist Family and Friends,

Memory verse for this week

“The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” Job 1:21

We can learn something about Job’s worship by the name for God he used. Three times in this short sentence the name LORD is used. This is God’s covenant and sovereign name. These four letters represent everything that is known of God as revealed in the Bible. Surely Job did not know what hit him, yet he did not jettison what he knew to be true of God. He reminded himself that no matter what has happened God is the eternal sovereign God who is full of light and goodness. He is confessing that God is in control. Job worships God by essentially proclaiming that these horrifying events does not trump God’s holiness and the love He has for Job. May we draw guidance on how to worship God in tragedy.

Prayer points for today:

  1. Are you learning to worship God in all contexts?
  2. Acknowledge God’s power and goodness in your life.
  3. Worship the Lord.

In Christ Alone,

Brad
