Call Upon His Name

main image

Memory verse for this week:

“Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him; sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!” 1 Chronicles 16:8,9

One of the ways we honor God most is by calling upon His name. When we pray we are expressing our need for God. Imagine a child never coming to his parents to ask for help or advise. Imagine a child never sharing with his parents about the hard time he or she is going through. Families with little or no communication will often times struggle. The same is true in our relationship with God. If we never seek Him or share with Him what we are facing then we will struggle spiritually. To ignore or assign little importance to continually calling upon the name of the Lord is to invite confusion, worry and loneliness into our lives.

Prayer points for today:

  1. Call upon His name today.
  2. Give thanks that He hears you and will lead you in His love.

Give Thanks

Memory verse for this week:

“Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sin to him; sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!” 1 Chronicles 16:8,9

This passage of Scripture from 1 Chronicles 16 is also found in Psalm 105:1-15. The people had brought the ark of the covenant of God and placed it inside a tent that David set up for it. David was so grateful for the Lord that he appointed the Levites to give thanks and praise. It has been said that one of the greatest sins of this country is ingratitude. It also seems true that one of the greatest sins among the church today is the lack of gratitude. In order to be thankful to God we must acknowledge His wisdom in giving us what we have. Francis Schaeffer discerned that our culture suffers from the sin of covetousness more than any other. Put plainly, we want what other people have and are thus not thankful for what God has given us. May we become content in the Lord and give Him thanks.

Prayer points for today:

  1. Give up wanting what does not belong to you.
  2. Give the Lord thanks for who He is and what he has done.
