Dear Tega Cay Church Family,
As elders and church staff, we want to care for our congregation in all respects, including the physical well-being of our community. We are carefully assessing how to do this in the context of the current COVID-19 (CoronaVirus) outbreak. In such a crisis, we tend to come at it from one of two extremes - anxiety (fear drives us) or arrogance (thinking - oh, this is ridiculous). We do not want to be driven by either extreme, but rather approach it from a view of love and service.
We believe the most helpful way to think about a situation like this is to ask the question, “What does it look like for us to love our neighbors well?” We want both our corporate and individual decisions to be made not from self-interest, but to be made from a desire to love, serve, and protect the most vulnerable among us. Since a significant percentage of the elderly and chronically ill patients who get the virus need hospitalization, part of the way we can love our vulnerable neighbors is by helping to slow down the spread of the virus, thus taking pressure off our healthcare system.
With this in mind, and with schools, many restaurants, and businesses temporarily closing down, we believe the most loving approach is to comply with what our government and health officials are asking of us - to refrain from gatherings of more than 10 people for a limited period of time. Therefore, we will NOT be having any church activities on campus (Wednesday night, worship service on Sunday, etc.). Later in the week we will (hopefully) send you a link to a video of the sermon. We encourage you to treat the viewing of the video as a time of worship - maybe even meet in homes with 2-3 others coming together, singing together, praying together, and listening to the Word together.
Just as this is a time of much uncertainty for some of your business and family finances, it can also be a time of financial stress for the church. Please allow me to encourage you to be faithful in the giving of your tithes and offerings to the Lord during this time as always. If you are setup to give online please do so otherwise contact the church office at (803)548-2600 to be setup or mail a check to the church office (Tega Cay Baptist Church, 1875 Gold Hill Road, Fort Mill, SC 29708). Automatic payments can also be set up through your local bank.
We will make a determination about future worship services and church-related activities in the coming days, so please watch for any communications from us (Facebook, email, texts, and telephone).
The uncertainty of this outbreak can create anxiety in our workplaces, schools, and day-to-day activities. Yet we remain certain of God’s steadfast presence and careful attention to all that is happening. Please join us in praying for those who are affected by this illness, as well as their caregivers and those who are working around the clock to minimize the impact of this virus.
In Psalm 46, we are reminded that it is God who is our refuge and strength, and our ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, let us not fear, but with confidence use this opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus through our prayers and our care for others.
